Index Linking – The true cost of replacement.

Friday, November 25th, 2011

When taking out any type of insurance policy one of the key requirements will be to specify a reinstatement or replacement value. It can be very difficult to judge but getting it right prevent under insurance and also paying too much in monthly premium.

Once a value has been specified, it is an on-going battle to ensure this is correct and up to date every year in line with inflation. We make this achievable by ensuring your sums insured are indexed each month in line with the following:

Buildings: The House Rebuilding Cost Index issued by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Contents: The Consumer Durables Section of the General Index of Retail Prices or a similar index.

This allows us to follow correct increases in line with the forever changing cost of living increases; this can be opted out of but is not recommended.

When looking at Property Owners policies it is important to look at level of cover vs. price, our index linking procedure is one example of how Cover4 ensure are clients are completely protected .
